The Denver Street School: Gives Troubled Youth A Second Chance

The Denver Street School Bulldogs basketball team was featured on January 15th by Colorado's News Leader, 9NEWS.

Excerpt: 'These kids come from a lot of challenges and they're just trying to navigate through it," he said. "One of the great things with the Street School is simply we're able to hook them with a sport that is universal.

"To try and get them to stay in school, get good grades and graduate is our main goal. But, trying to get street players to play intelligently is a challenge."

This season, Galanaugh has succeeded as the Bulldogs are 12-2 overall and their leading scorer - Eric Swift - is third in the state in scoring with 26.0 ppg.

Galanaugh admits teaching fundamentals isn't easy, when even professional basketball players aren't following the basics.
